Green places are one of the most breathtaking places to sightsee in Dublin. You´ll find that all are carefully well-mantain and clean.
Dublin's parks and gardens are perfect places to take a break, relax and even have a picnic if you are lucky and the weather is good.
Phoenix Park
This incredible park is one of the most popular parks in Dublin. It is the largest in the whole city with more than 700 hectares and the largest enclosed public park in any Europe capital city. What makes Phoenix Park unique is that a large herd of wild deer still remain living to this day, so you can see them so near. Please remember that there are wild animals, it is important to maintain a reasonable distance and it is not permitted to feed them.
Another interesting thing to sightsee there is the Áras an Uacharáin, the official residence of the President of Ireland which is open for free guided tours every Saturday.
Saint Stephen Green Park
This well-know park is one of the oldest in the city and one of the most visited by tourist. It is a pleasant place to take a break. Its central location next to the famous Grafton street, makes Saint Stephen very accessible. It is worth visiting!
Iveagh Gardens
This one is definetely one of the most beautiful parks in Dublin and also the least known in spite of its central location. It´s hidden in the heart of the city near to Saint Stephen Green Park makes it special. You can find a wonderful rose gardenw and a labyrinth that seems to have been taken directly from a fairy tale.
Merrion Square Park
The park is surrounded by buildings full of architectural and historical interest, such as the houses of the Government, the Senate, The National Gallery, The National Museum of Archeology or The Museum of Natural History. Therefore, it is a perfect place to take a break after visiting some of the museums! ... By the way.. The entrance to all the National museums is free!
In front of Merrion Square you can find the house where used to live the well-known writer Oscar Wilde and also in the park you can find a statue commemorating the writer.
Bushy Park
This park it is located in the neighbourhood of Terenure and it is one of my favourites in Dublin. Even though it is necessary to go off the beaten track it´s definitely a worth visit! There is a hidden lake that it is an incredible spot to take pictures!
Eamonn Ceannt Park
This one is also far away from the city center but I decided to include it here because this park includes a lot of free attractions to enjoy, specially for those who enjoy outdoor sports. Extending to 17 hectares, you can find an athletic track, veledrome, soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts and children's playground.
Last but not least... its view is amazing too!
