How to get to Dublin city center from the Airport (DUB)

Find which is the best way to get to the city center once you land in Emerald Island.

Dublin Airport is located in Collinstown, in the north side of Dublin, about 10km away from the city center. The jorney takes 20-30 minutes, but during the peak hours you should bear in mind thatit may take longer.

There are several transport options for those travelling to Dublin City Centre or those who wants to connect to the rest of Ireland, by reaching one of the train stations such us. Connolly and Heuston stations, as well as Bus Áras, Ireland's central Bus station.

By bus

1) Urban bus

This is the cheapest but the slowest option to get to the city center.

You shoud take Line 16 that takes approximately 45 minutes to reach the downtown O'Connell Street station. One-way ticket costs € 3.30.

An important thing to take into consideration is that the bus drivers don´t return change, so you´d better bring the exact amount of money, otherwise the bus driver will give you a ticket to change for the exact amount of your change to exchange it in the central office of Dublin Bus in O'Connell St.

To find the 16 Line bus stop from the Terminal 1 at the airport you must go out into the street and cross it towards the parking building. You have to cross it and continue straight until you exit the building and then you´ll reach the bus platforms. The line 16 bus is located in zone 15.

Another option is to take Line 41 that goes to Abbey Street Lower, located in the center of the cit. It takes around 45 minutes.

Extra Tip: If you travel with the Leap Card (the pre-paid card which is used in public trasport) the rate is reduced to € 2.50 one way. You can get the card for the cost of €5 (refundable) in one of the Payzone outlets at the airport. If you’re planning to spend a few days in the city, you’ll travel like a local when you swipe your Leap Card in front of the card reader on buses, tram (LUAS) and trains (DART).

2) Airlink (Route 747 ó 757)

This is the one of the most comfortable and faster way to get to the city center if you consider its cost. Airlink operates 7 days a week, from 4.45 a.m. at 12.30 a.m.

The Airlink Express service has two routes, the original route 747 between Dublin Airport and Heuston Train Station and 757 route, between Dublin Airport and Camden (Charlotte Way and Harcourt Street). See more datails and all the tops in the official website.

The journey takes about 25-40 minutes and costs € 7.00 one way. You can save money

buying the round trip ticket for € 12 or buying it in advance from their website (Single ticket €6). There is a ticket office inside the terminal 1 -“Bus & Travel Information Desk”and also machines at the stop where you can buy the tickets.

To find the bus stop you must go out to the street and cross the road. You´ll see the stop easely!

There is free Wi-Fi on board on all Airlink buses.

3) Aircoach (Route 700)

It´s a similar service but cost 6 and taking the round trip ticket might cost € 11.50. To find the AirCoach bus stop from terminal 1, you should go out onto the street and you´ll see the stop just on the left side. This route has 2 stops in Dublin city center: one O´Connell St. and another O´Connell Bridge, in Temple Bar. You can visit the website to see the stops in more detail.

By car

You can rent a card in one of the rental car companies. You will find the main rental companies at the end of Terminal 1, on the right-hand side ( you need to past the doors that lead to the street). The prices depends on the kind of the car you would like to rent and the days you´ll need it.

By taxi

While is the most comfortable option as they will leave you in front of your accommodation´s door, it´s also probably the most expensive one. However for those who are tired after a long journey, can´t carry with all the luggage or if you are a group of 3 or 4 people, it might be a good option for you

The journey takes about 20 - 30 minutes (Sometimes could be more, depending on the traffic, especially during pick hours). It costs around € 25 - € 35 to the city center.
